Many patients want to know how to speak to their children about transplantation.

There really is no right way as every situation is different, and every child has a different personality. Some feel more comfortable knowing more, and others less.

We find that familiarising your children with the Austin Hospital and the LTU staff helps. They know that Mum or Dad is being cared for by people they have met, and this may make them feel less scared.

Our transplant surgeons are available to meet with your children to explain transplantation, and answer any questions they have. We also offer a tour of the hospital, including the ICU and Ward 8 West.

We run a children's support and education session in the July workshop.

Speak to your Social Worker if you wish to arrange a meeting with a surgeon and a tour.
