After ICU you will be taken to Ward 8 West. It is a  busy ward, where everyone is very experienced in treating liver and intestinal transplant patients.

There are 32 beds, including 8 single rooms which are reserved for patients recovering from a transplant and those with infections.

There is a television area between 8 West and 8 East with great views to the Dandenong Ranges. You and your visitors may want to use this space if you need a break from your room.

There is a charge for using the in-room television sets at approximately $10 per day. Feel free to bring in your iPad or laptop. Staff can assist you to connect to the Austin Health Wi-Fi network free of charge.

Every bed has its own telephone and extension number. You will need to purchase a phone card from the machine located near the lifts to use the phones.

Please keep in mind that flowers are not permitted in rooms after you have had a transplant due to contamination risks - ask your visitors to bring balloons instead!

Visiting hours are from 11am to 8pm daily. Exceptions can occasionally be negotiated.
