My first thought when I was told that I needed a liver transplant was that someone had to die for me to live; I thought I could not do that. Then I looked at it differently – people donate because they want someone to live.
It took me a long time to adjust to this.
The thing that helped me through was that I had such a great team. I was so lucky with my team, I soon realised I had one of the best teams in the world and that I couldn’t be in a better place.
I felt so comfortable with them all - social work, nurse coordinator, psychiatrist, doctors. I knew I could ring them at any time and if they were busy they would get back to me. So many of the things I had worried about were not issues in the end.
