For those who live far away from the hospital, or have visitors who need accommodation, there are many local options at various prices.

The following accommodation options are nearby the Austin Hospital and offer discounted rates for Liver Transplant patients and their families. Please be aware that these places are in high demand so if possible make arrangements well in advance.

Royal Talbot Flats
Self contained units on the grounds of the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, which is part of Austin Health and about a 15 minute drive away. Patients who travel from regional areas and interstate will be prioritised. Availability is often limited. Contact your Social Worker or Transplant Coordinator to book.

$35 per night (bulk billing not applicable, if you are eligible for reimbursement through your state travel scheme, you must apply for reimbursement after your stay).

Priority to country patients and their families. No children permitted. Cooking facilities, own bathroom. Ten minute walk to the Austin Repatriation Hospital with the shuttle bus to Austin or a short walk to Ivanhoe Station to take the train to Heidelberg.

Medihotel
The Medihotel is located on the Austin campus on the north side of the Studley Road car park, entry by Studley Road.
Free of charge for patients, carers $35 or $11 for concession rate.
Those who are eligible can claim reimbursement through VPTAS (see Travel section for details). Only accommodates patients and one carer. Carers cannot stay there without the patient.
Shared kitchenette and lounge, TV, DVD and laundry facilities.
There are basic provisions for tea, coffee, biscuits and a light breakfast. Night meal will be provided free to patient $10 charge for carers.
Medihotel is closed on Saturday nights.
